Where Your Donation Goes: How a Tennis Tournament Can Reach New Mexico Classrooms

When people consider donating to a charity event, one of the most important questions is also one of the simplest: where does the money go? For the CRC Memorial Tennis Tournament, the answer reaches far beyond the tennis courts.

The October 24 event raises funds for Breaking the Silence New Mexico, a statewide nonprofit focused on mental-health literacy, advocacy and well-being through education and personal stories. Its work includes school-based Talking Mental Health programming as well as education for staff, service providers and communities.

The tournament’s 2026 fundraising page provides a useful way to visualize the impact of a larger sponsorship. It states that for each $5,000 raised, BTSNM can provide 40 sessions of two Talking Mental Health lessons across 20 classrooms, reaching a minimum of 400 students. A $2,500 level is described as supporting three half-days of professional development for groups of 25 to 50 staff members each.

Those figures are powerful because they translate a sponsorship from an abstract charitable expense into an education outcome. A company is not simply buying a banner on a fence. It is helping fund the infrastructure needed for mental-health conversations to happen in schools and communities across New Mexico.

The 2026 event also highlights BTSNM’s Youth Advisory Group, created to give teens ages 15 to 18 a meaningful role in mental-health advocacy. Youth participants can review lessons, participate in community events, learn advocacy skills and contribute to media and outreach. Tournament proceeds are also expected to support educational scholarships for graduating seniors.

Individual donations matter as well. Community fundraising works because gifts of different sizes combine. A $25 contribution, a $250 sponsor, a $1,000 company gift and a $5,000 leadership sponsorship all become part of the same pool of support. The relevant question is not whether one person can fund an entire program. It is whether enough people will decide to participate together.

That is the opportunity before Albuquerque this October. The tournament offers a visible, welcoming way to support mental-health education while enjoying a day built around sport and community. If you have been wondering whether your contribution can matter, the answer is yes—especially when it joins hundreds of other acts of support.
